The True Story of a Novel Life
A Baby Boomer’s Last Stand in its entirety, is a series of fourteen short books each with a separate subtitle, that are included collectively in three separate volumes that documents the “True Story of a Novel Life” of a very unique and “sometimes famous” entrepreneur named Jason Mershon, between the decades of 1951 and 2019 and in many ways, also tells the story of America between the presidencies of Harry S. Truman and Donald J. Trump. But mainly, these books will take those who lived, loved and laughed during that era, back to the stories about the people, places, and especially the music of those wild, crazy, outrageous, and sometimes dramatic events, that defined the life of the baby boomer generation.
Volume One and Volume Two include the first nine books in the series and are chronologically written covering the first thirty-five years of this unique baby boomer between 1951 and 1986, while the final four books that are included in Volume Three, conclude the trilogy in 2019 which did turn out to be coincidentally appropriate. THE PROLOGUE: 1987-1992
(Special Edition)
Gambling, Romance, and a Song 1987-1992
This special edition of A Baby Boomer’s Last Stand, THE PROLOGUE introduces the complete trilogy during a time when major social, cultural, political and lifestyle changes were occurring in America, with many of the major players in today’s culture and society gaining their own prominence during that era. This was also the period the baby boomer of this biography was approaching forty years old and reflecting on whether living the lifestyle of his generation’s mantra of “Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll” was still relevant, and if it was still possible to “just have fun” in the changing culture of that time. From the gambling tables of Las Vegas, the show biz lifestyle in Hollywood, the romances, to the famous classic rock bands of his generation he worked, partied and performed with, and whose music he hoped would give him the answers, he wasn’t ready to fold his hand just yet.

ABOUT THE TRILOGY
There’s a popular meme that occasionally pops up on the social media pages that reads; “I’m so glad I grew up in the 1970’s and 1980’s because I did so much stupid stuff and there’s no record of it anywhere!”
But regardless of how much the current culture as well as some baby boomers themselves would like to forget those “politically incorrect” times and some of the “stupid stuff” they were involved in, if people look hard enough, there’s always a record of it somewhere.
Especially in these pages.
Jon Alexander Young has written a series of books about a time that all baby boomers will be able to associate with as he documents the story of a life’s journey with the insights, and sometimes uncomfortable honesty, of one unique human being who spent his time living on this planet during a very interesting and probably most important time in the history of the United States.
Throughout the last half of the twentieth century and into the twenty first century, there were probably millions of people who ether saw the subject of this biography onstage, read about in the newspapers or magazines, heard him being interviewed on television or the radio, as well as thousands of others who thought they knew him as well.
This baby boomer was a pioneer in many cultural changes that occurred in America during that era through his unique and varied career choices as an editor and publisher of a ground-breaking national newspaper; one of America’s first disco and nightclub promoters; an award-winning songwriter and theatrical producer; a well-known gambler and poker player; to even a “sometimes” rock star. He crossed paths and partied with hundreds of world famous entertainers and celebrities, politicians, sports and music legends, and even some notorious mobsters. But most never saw any connections between those different aspects of his life when they may have personally met him themselves.
It all depended on what name he was using at the time.
But this trilogy is more than a revealing biography and shows the very personal journey through the eyes of this one particular baby boomer and how the sexual and celebrity culture, the music, and especially the media changed during the last half of the twentieth century and also, how it all eventually changed him as well.
A Baby Boomer’s Last Stand brings back many of the long-forgotten events and stories of a different era when the baby boomers changed the way people looked at the world and changed the way people had fun.
At least for a while.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A Baby Boomer’s Last Stand is Jon Alexander Young’s first series of books as a published author, but has worked as a freelance writer and ghostwriter for the past several years on biographies and non-fiction, along with articles and essays on the cultural changes in America in the twenty-first century.
Because the current culture is leaving many with the satisfied knowledge that it won’t be long before the baby boomers are as extinct as the dinosaurs, and want to forget about the way things were in the last half of the twentieth century, Jon felt this story may also show many of those same people how we got to where we are today through the eyes of this one particular baby boomer.
Being a part of the group identified as “Generation X” himself, and seeing both the positive the negative influences on today’s culture that many claim the baby boomer generation was responsible for, is what motivated Jon to tell this story and personally relive that era after having become acquainted with the subject of this story in 2016 and hearing him fondly remember many of his experiences and adventures.
Having always enjoyed the storytelling in the filmed documentaries of Ken Burns, and how those documentaries explain the backstories in great depth and detail to show viewers aspects they may not have known about before, Jon wanted to attempt to write what he described as a “still life documentary” and tell a true story, but with a novel narrative, and take readers on one person’s life journey for almost seventy years and include photo’s, newspaper clippings, and other documentation that would immediately bring the people and subjects written about in these books to life.
But when Jon began to write this biography and conducted dozens of hours of personal interviews and research with many of those involved with the story, as well as viewing hundreds of hours of film, video tapes, archival newspaper and television news stories and photos, he soon began to realize his word count far exceeded what he had planned for one book. With that in mind, Jon decided to break his story into fourteen shorter “books” over three separate volumes in order to make it an easier read for book lovers.
Jon also felt the old Crosby, Still and Nash song "Teach Your Children" was another of his inspirations for writing this story and hopes his own children, as well as other millennials, will be able to see how the culture of the baby boomer generation will probably never be repeated in their lifetime.
For better or for worse.
Even though there are many who may condemn some of those adventures and experiences today, there are probably millions of others who will envy them.
Jon hopes these books will not only take the reader back to the events, people. places, and even the music that was truly the soundtrack of their lives not just for the memories, but for the purpose that hopefully it may give everyone who reads it some time to examine their own lives and purpose.
Jon Alexander Young and his wife Delores live in Boston with their two dogs and one cat, while currently working on his next book tentatively titled The X Years, a semi-autobiographical novel based on his own experiences in the early 1990’s being involved in the Grunge and Acid House Music scene, which he feels is the logical follow up to A Baby Boomer’s Last Stand.
